England’s most prestigious university city

Cambridge is best known for the University of Cambridge, which is made up of 30 colleges scattered throughout the city. Cambridge University has been attracting students for 800 years and has hosted such famous students as John Milton, Sir Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Oliver Cromwell, Prince Edward and Prince Charles. Cambridge University claims more than sixty Nobel Prize winners. With some col-leges dating back to the eleventh century and all schools of architecture - from Gothic to Modern - represented, the city is a magnet to anyone with an interest in British history, from King’s College Chapel, which was begun in 1466 by King Henry VI to the Fitzwilliam Museum.

Explore Cambridge on foot, bicycle or boat

Cambridge is a lovely city for walking or cycling. EF staff help arrange for bicycles and organize weekly guided walk-ing tours that take you through the history of Cambridge while taking in the amazing buildings and cobbled streets. After class enjoy a leisurely boat ride (punt) down the river Cam as you cruise by ancient libraries, bridges and arches. Or browse the bookshops near the University – some have been in business for hundreds of years. Be sure to stop for a pint and soak up the atmosphere at a friendly English pub.
