EF’s Classroom app shortlisted for British Council Digital Innovation prize

(April 2, 2012, Zurich, Switzerland) A pioneering iPad app, developed by EF Education First to unlock the creative genius of every English-language student, has been shortlisted by the British Council for its prestigious Excellence in Digital Innovation award.

Imagine a lesson where every student is able to shoot their own documentary, perfect their pronunciation, or debate current events with streaming video alongside interactive vocabulary tools. With the EF Classroom app, teachers craft a unique lesson every time based on their students’ interests, ambitions, and needs.

“Introducing the iPad into our teaching untethers students from fixed computers and creates a more personal, social, and collaborative learning experience,” says Dr. Christopher McCormick, EF’s Head of Academics and Director of the EF Research Unit at the University of Cambridge.  “EF’s Classroom app encourages creativity in both students and teachers to enjoy fresh, unique, and engaging lessons.”

The EF Classroom app is on the shortlist for the Digital Innovation category of the famed ELTons – the British Council Innovation Awards, created to recognize innovation in English Language Teaching (ELT). The British Council, supported by the British government, is one of the most respected cultural organizations in the world.

The EF Classroom app harnesses the interactivity of the iPad to create dynamic language lessons. Students enjoy a live sequence of EF’s award-winning Efekta Learning System, including activities, videos, images, and audio, interspersed with authentic material from the internet – plus tools for students to create and share their own media. It is the only iPad app which allows teachers to create a playlist of language learning objects and web tools that can be pushed to students in real time throughout a lesson.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on May 23, 2012.
